Histopathological spectrum of lesions in gastrointestinal endoscopic biopsies in Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College and associated group of Hospitals, Ajmer, Rajasthan

Background: The gastrointestinal tract which extends from the esophagus to anus is a common site for numerous pathological processes non-neoplastic, pre-neoplastic, neoplastic. Gastrointestinal tumors including both benign and malignant are major cause of morbidity mortality worldwide. Endoscopy in combination with endoscopic biopsy plays an important role detecting early cancers and/or high-grade dysplasia diagnosis upper lower neoplasms therefore aids their management.Methods: This study was done 1 year July 2018 June 2019 (retrospectively) over period 2020 (prospectively). All biopsies samples were received department pathology at J. L. N. Medical College Associated Group Hospital, Ajmer, Rajasthan.Results: mean age patients 51.91±18.86 years highest incidence (GI) disease seen between group 51-60 years. male: female (M: F) ratio 1.46: 1. Non neoplastic lesions more than lesions. Inflammatory lesion most commonly observed followed by sensitivity endoscopy 96.25%, specificity 68.67%, positive predictive value 74.76% negative 95%. Accuracy 82.21%.Conclusions: Endoscopic correlation reflects advances understanding pathophysiology prognosis survival rates after staging case carcinomas. It provides diagnostic information improving patient management.
